Birth and Development of Egyptian Civilisation along the Nile Valley

Why was the ancient Egyptian civilization developed along the River Nile?  It is said that the ancient Egyptians would never be able to start their civilization if it were not the Nile.  How and why the River Nile was so important to the ancient Egyptians?  Read the picture or on p. 7 of your textbook to fill up the blanks.

   Think for a moment… “Why were sea, desert and mountains favourable for the growth and development of ancient Egyptian civilization?”




   Describe the pictures below and explain why the River Nile is a gift to the ancient Egyptians.


In summer, the River Nile flooded.  The floods left behind a large amount of black soil on the river bank.  Thus, the people planted the crops on the river bank.  In winter they watered the land and harvested the crops the following season.  If there were no river, there would be no rich soil.  If there were no rich soil, the people could not grow crops.  If people could not grow crops, they would not come together and develop their civilization.
